Born and raised in New Jersey, Vibes began his journey into music at the age of 12 by writing poetry. Within the next two years his poetry had taken on the form of written raps that expressed the repressed feelings of anger, isolation and curiosity he felt throughout his adolescence. Growing up in the 90's, Vibes was heavily-influenced by the thriving hip-hop scene, especially artists such as: Nas, A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, Das EFX, Redman, Wu-Tang Clan and Jay-Z. These artists would help shape Vibes into the MC that he would become in the years to follow.
In 2004, Vibes began independently releasing mixtapes and EP's in his high school and neighborhood, recorded himself in a makeshift, home studio. Though his early work was unpolished it provided him the experience of learning to operate recording equipment and compose his own beats. Combining his hip-hop influences with a strong interest in Rock 'n' Roll; specifically 1960's and '70's acts such as: The Jimi Hendrix Experience, The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Bob Dylan and Pink Floyd, Vibes began to experiment with various forms of music, including Jazz and Soul, becoming increasingly political and personal in his songwriting.
In 2009, Vibes released his debut album, “Vintage Vibes” which was written and produced entirely by Vibes himself. The album was released on April 20th and without any label backing or major promotion, the album gained over 600 downloads in the first week of release. Vibes main source of promotion was fueled by the “freethevibes.com” campaign which included distributing all materials through the official website www.freethevibes.com by utilizing resources such as stickers, flyers, cards, interviews and features on various blog sites.
On September 21st, Vibes released his second, full-length work in the form of a mixtape titled "The New Generation". The mixtape featured the critically-acclaimed, underground hip-hop trio, Tanya Morgan, as well as veteran MC, Royce Da 5'9" of the hip-hop group Slaughterhouse. Production freatured on "The New Generation" was handled largely by the New Jersey-based production team, Trackfiends Entertainment with contributions from 6th Sense, Jay Hu and S.K. Once again, without label support or a major promotion campaign, the mixtape gained over 1,000 downloads in its' first week of release and garnered Vibes multiple features and accolades, including the song "Fly" being recognized in Time Out New York's "The Volume" column as an outstanding song from "The New Generation".
Vibes songwriting skills remain exceptional and revealing, not only of himself but of his love and appreciation for the music that inspires him. Likewise, Vibes consistently shows signs of the lessons taught to him by hip-hop veterans, injecting his lyrics with positive and self-empowering messages with high-energy, feel-good music. Never forgetting his roots and those of the hip-hop culture, Vibes' uplifting poetry and unapologetic honesty are qualities that few artists in today's hip-hop landscape possess. Vibes is the culmination of music's power to reinvent, empower and inspire.
